Stilts [Jun. 18th, 2010|02:29 am]
Four legs are good!

Well, it was hard, but all in all, I think these will work a lot better than trying to squeeze your hand down into a PVC tube.
I couldn't do it, and I have small hands (so I am told..) so I went on a search of a different way to make stilts.

1/4 diameter PVC pipe
4 inch PVC pipe for the top (Covered in some fabric to prevent slipping)
And 3 inch PVC pipe for the base

1, 4 1/2 in bolt 1/4inch in diameter
6 2 inch bolts 1/4 in diameter

Dremel power tool
Bolt cutters

These have nothing to rub your knuckles on, make a more animal shape and you can widen the distance between the front leg and the back legs by at least a little bit. I'm no lightweight, but these things were able to take my weight pretty well, and I am very confident feeling on them. I have even attempted running in them, and to my surprise, was able to run at least a little bit! First time too!

PS, can we start a memories thing like the fursuit community? I know it would help a lot of people out there!

Could you show the dremel you used with the size drill bit, and how you got the hand-grips attached? I've been trying to figure those out for a little while now. ;_;

These look great, by the way! No complete tube-ness, so you can build up the shape you want.

Sure... but.. I think I used certain parts I wasn't supposed to... ^^;
Pretty much, I took the tubing and cut a section about the size of my palm, maybe a bit bigger. Then I drilled holes on the side pipes at equal heights. I then took the hand piece and sanded the edge to make it curved inward to fit more snugly against the side pieces. After that, I took one of the really long bolts and threaded it through the hole, through the hand bar, and then out the hole in the other side bar, put a nut on it and tightened until it didn't rattle around anymore.

I can get that pic/maybe video in a little bit. Just woke up also, so sorry if that didn't make sense?

It made sense in the first part, but the last bit did confuse me a bit. Visual reference would be great. :3

Sadly, I could only find up to a 4 inch internal diameter readily available at the Home Depot and Lowes in my area. Ooooh, if I could have just found some 5 inch.. T_T

Thanks and I'll keep you guys posted! :D
